The Most Advanced Shop Roaster in the World Solar coffee roaster was launched in 2006 as the third generation of our innovative Shop Roasters project.
The cutting-edge machine showed early promise and since became the most common piece on our manufacturing tables. Hundreds of Solar coffee roasters were sold worldwide to very happy customers. These years of experience helped us to reach perfection. We now can confidently claim that the Solar falls no short of being the best roaster in every way.
The Solar excels in its superb roasting quality, plug-and-play operation, compact design and exceptional reliability with no maintenance needed. Thanks to these features, it’s no wonder the Solar was adopted by many micro roasting startups, specialty shops and coffee bars. Until now, no other shop roaster was able to challenge the Solar – the most advanced shop roasting machine in the world.

The Solar's Unique Technology –  Planner’s Perspective
Solar was designed according to a long list of requirements and constraints derived from our extensive study and experience. The roaster had to be capable of roasting a pre-blended coffee at the highest level. Another precondition was to make it 100% electrical using low consumption 230V, single phase. This, in order to save the user the “pleasure” of dealing with gas (we know, some people believe they need to have gas even for their shop roaster… we can talk about that later). Since we specified this particular roaster to work in shops, we wanted it to be safe, quiet, clean, easy to maintain, automatic and produce the lowest possible amount of pollution. We also wanted to eliminate the risk involved in having an outer cooling unit with accessible agitation blades. It had to be compact with the option for countertop placement and above all – maintenance free! That is why the chaff blower needs no cleaning, as opposed to many other shop roasters where cleaning is required on a weekly, or monthly, basis. Solar needs no greasing or any other special maintenance other than emptying the chaff bucket and cleaning the duct.

The Secrets of the Solar Roasting Quality

The only traditional thing about the Solar is the outer shape, all the rest is a well studied unique Coffee-Tech technology.
The solar is the only machine in the world that combines between "drum roasting" and "fluid bed roasting". Laboratory tests proved that embedding a few seconds of fluid bed roasting every few minutes of drum roasting produces superb uniformity in the batch; thanks to the exact ratio between conductive heat and convective heat transformation. The heating is enhanced even further with the Infra-Red radiation, treating not only the beans that are in direct contact with the drum, but also the "flying" beans.
This means that in the solar roasting process, we activate no less than four heating methods at once, thus achieving maximum uniformity, and full aroma and flavor development.
The "in drum cooling" is so powerful and effective, even more than the outer cooling group. This ensures blocking the roasting cycle immediately, preserving the maximal amounts of sugar, oil, aroma and flavor. The "in drum cooling" reduces the drum temperature to the correct point for inserting a new batch.
The drum and the heaters have minimal thermal mass, so they loose the heat as soon as the cooling starts.
You can always decide to end the roast manually and use the outer cooling group in the Solar.
